Research Interests
My long-term goal is to understand how corticothalamic pathways contribute to sensory and cognitive functions in the normal brain and to understand how dysfunction of these pathways contribute to neurological disorders. In the visual system, primary visual cortex (V1) is interconnected with two thalamic nuclei: the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) and the pulvinar. The LGN serves as the primary conduit of retinal information to the cortex, while the pulvinar complex acts as a corticothalamic hub sharing reciprocal connectivity with the entire visual cortical hierarchy. Through the use of optogenetic techniques, which I spearheaded in the lab, and multielectrode recording methods, my research is addressing how changes in sensory input and behavioral demands dynamically modulate thalamocortical circuits.
